Dr. Brian Thomas joined Tennessee River Dermatology in 2013. He specializes in general medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology. He is a subspecialist in micrographic dermatologic (Mohs) surgery and in dermatopathology, the microscopic interpretation of skin biopsies.
Dr. Thomas received a Bachelor of Engineering degree, magna cum laude, from Vanderbilt University, where he was also selected for the Tau Beta Pi National Engineering Honor Society. He is an honors graduate of the University of Alabama School of Medicine. Dr. Thomas completed an internship in basic surgery and residency in dermatology at the Naval Medical Center of San Diego, California. During his residency, his peers and supervising faculty twice elected him “most valuable resident.” He completed a dermatopathology fellowship at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. Dr. Thomas is a diplomate of the American Boards of Dermatology and Pathology, holding board certification in dermatology, dermatopathology, and micrographic dermatologic (Mohs) Surgery. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology. He is licensed to practice medicine in Alabama.
Dr. Thomas has participated in original dermatologic research and has been published in multiple professional journals. He has been an invited lecturer at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Dermatology. From 2008 to 2013, Dr. Thomas was an attending physician in the dermatology department at the National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. Prior to leaving this post, he attained the rank of Commander in the United States Navy.
